Mads and TNT guitarist Ronnie Le Tekro are invited to participate in the annual Christmas Jam at Per's Hotel at Gol on December 26. This is not the first time Mads has shared the stage with the legendary Mr. Tekrø, in August 2001 they teamed up with Stage Dolls leader Torstein Flakne, former Stage Dolls-now-Chris Thompson-Mads Eriksen drummer Steinar Krokstad, Frank Hovland and Harald Dahlstrøm for a loud nachspiel after Bryan Adams' Bergen concert. They have also played together on the Easter Rock days in Høyanger in 1995-96 and 97. CHRISTMAS GREETINGS Just wanted to wish you all a happy Christmas! This is part of a cultural festival arranged by Kulturavdelingen, Bergenhus bydel 02/09 2003 | Autumn Hi, hope you all have had a nice summer! Here's some news: RERUN OF THE TV CONCERT WITH CHRIS THOMPSON/MADS ERIKSEN BAND The concert we did in Tromsø last year that was broadcasted on NRK1 on July 11 is going to be sent again on NRK2 Sunday September 7 at 18.30 on NRK2. By the way, thanks for all the kind comments that you have e-mailed and texted me about the concert - glad you liked it! We are still in the progress of negotiating a deal for DVD release of the concert, so hopefully it will be out soon. NEW ACOUSTIC SOLO CONCERT I'm going to do an acoustic (almost, that is) solo gig on Madam Felle in Bergen Friday September 12. I will play songs from all my albums, and it will be pretty much like the one I did in March this year. I have added a couple of new things though - I'm also in the progress of writing an all-acoustic album which will hopefully be released next year. OTHER GIGS Due to all the hard work left on the New Zealand recording, Chris T. and I have decided to not do any gigs this fall. We would really have wanted to play, but we intend to do exensive touring after the release concert on the Bergen Music Fest (Ole Blues) next year. Then we'll also have a lot of new material to present, so I hope you will find it worth waiting for. These are the gigs I know of so far: September 12: Madam Felle, Bergen (solo concert) So far it looks fairly easy as far as playing goes, but there's tons of things to be done with the NZ recording, and Chris and I will go down there sometime during this fall and finish off the recordings. CONGRATS! To my buddy and partner Hungry John, who received the very prestigous Notodden Blues Festival Award this year! Well deserved - he's had a really unique 30-year long career as a blues musician in Norway, which is beyond impressive. Salute, bro'! 25/07 2003 | Concerts this weekend Mads is playing at Nord-Hordaland Country Festival this weekend: july 25: Samfunnshuset, Austrheim (M.E. Band) 06/06 2003 | Soldier of unfortune Sorry folks, the support performance for Ritchie Blackmore in Bergen on June 5 was not going to happen - it was a last minute descision that the opening act (me) was left out due to "productional difficulties". That's just life, I guess - nothing to do with me or the local organizers (Ole Blues). I must admit that my face turned, well, deep purple, when I first learned that we were not going to be on the gig, since I've done several interviews about it and done some serious rehearsing with my band -- but hey, that never hurts anyway. We'll keep on rocking in the free world! NEW AMPS; NEW PICKUPS Mads has started to use Laney amplifiers exclusively. After checking out several models, he stuck with the TT100H top with a TT412A cabinet as a main setup, and the TT50 combo with a 12"speaker for smaller venues. 02/06 2003 | TV concert to be broadcasted july 11, NRK 1 Finally a TV broadcasting date for the long-awaited concert with Chris Thompson/Mads Eriksen Band from Tromsø, Norway Nov 24 2002!!! The 1hour 30min. concert combines CT/Manfred Mann's Earth Band faves like Mighty Quinn, Blinded By The Light, Davys On the Road again, You're The Voice, Thompson/Eriksen collaborations like Burning Light , Back in your Arms and Mads' signature tune Suburban Cowboy. Add to that a healthy dose of Chris' later solomaterial, and you have tons of good reasons to stay up late that night! It starts at 00:05....The concert will be out on DVD/CD soon, and will be sent again on NRK1 sometime this fall. MADS OPENING FOR RITCHIE BLACKMORE IN BERGEN JUNE 5 Mads Eriksen has been given the honour of opening Ritchie Blackmore's concert in the Peer Gynt Hall in Bergen Thursday June 5. Mads will be joined on stage by long time companion Frank Hovland on bass and Zsolt Mescaros on drums. They'll play some of Eriksen's more folky and subdued material, and as a tribute to the evening's main act, maybe a little piece by Edvard Grieg - due to mr. Blackmore's wellknown passion for the music of old Eddie... 08/05 2003 | Get Notified! We have had some request for an email service to notify people when the site is updated. On board where also Chris's longtime friend Andy Palace, and Anita Langthaller, who where shooting a TV documentary about the journey and the recordings. We saw a lot of incredible places, like Cape Rienga, the wild and windy spot up north, Roturua with the geysers and boiling mud, and the fantastic Waitomo caves with the glow worms - the sensations are to many to mention. After a week of travelling we arrived at the spectacular Piha Beach, west of Auckland city, where we stayed in a big house that we rented while we were rehearsing and recording. The recordings took place in York Street studios in the Parnell area of Auckland. It proved to be a great studio, the sound was fantastic and the people were the best. We worked with technicians Clint, who is the most fabulous Pro Tools-guy I've ever seen, and Steve, who was 2nd engineer. They were great guys to work with. We recorded very intensively for 8 days and recorded a huge amount of music. It was a great recording experience. Working with Chris is such a thrill, as a singer he is second to none, and he is also a great songwriter and has a remarkable ability to get the best out of the people he works with. I'm really proud to be around great musicians like Frank, Steinar and Gunnar - they all play so incredibly well that recording with them is just a pleasure, so easy. We were also fortunate enough to have a lot of local mucicians guesting on the record, which really gave the recordings a great vibe. One night we had a maori culture group who sang backupvocals and sang some of their traditonal tunes. We will do additinonal recordings at Chris's studio in Newport Beach and in Bergen, and the plan is to go back to New Zealand and do the final mixing in November. We are going to tour extensively in September, we're going to play probably in Germany, Austria and Norway. Hopefully we will have our live DVD/CD ready by then. This is from a concert that we did in Tromsø Nov 24 2002, which is soon to be broadcasted on NRK TV. Rock on!
